Artist Recommendation: Jinn

Upon listening to rock band Jinn for the first time, the vocals will immediately catch your attention. Somehow, they seem to trick you into believing that it’s an angry young boy singing but, when listening more closely, it’ll become clear that it’s a female vocalist singing.

The twenty-one year-old Hiitan is, however, nothing like any other female singer, seeing as her voice is raw and full of emotion, rather than the high-pitched happy-happy vocals that many female vocalists have. Not afraid to scream and sing songs completely devoid of anything ‘cute’, it gives Jinn’s music a primitive and emotional touch. The other three members of the band are responsible for creating a catchy rock sound with interesting and catchy guitar riffs at the foreground.

Despite the young age of the band members (between 21 and 23), they have been around for about five years now. With their single Raion released in 2006, they were able to gain more attention as the song was used for the opening for the anime “Blood+”.

So far, the band has released two albums and a handful of singles, their popularity in Japan is growing steadily. Unfortunately, they’re still rather unknown overseas so we recommend you to check them out, we think they’re definitely worth your time!
