Q & A and Concert with Unicorn Table at Tora-Con 2008
On April 26, the anime convention Tora Con was held in Rochester NY. One of the guests of the relatively small con was the Japanese pop band Unicorn Table, who appeared at Tora-con’s Q & A panel to answer questions from fans and to set the stage for their live performance later that night.
Fans will enjoy Unicorn Table’s debut album Uncountable in America, containing a total of ten tracks which can be heard in animes such as Jinki:extend and School Rumble!
During the Q & A fans were curious about both Salia (lyricist/vocalist) and Shingo (guitarist/accompaniment). Salia and Shingo met back in 2001 when both were solo artists: Salia a singer who had previously done music for animes such as Vandred and Shingo a composer/guitarist whose music can be heard in Casshern.
The most intriguing question was the mystery behind Unicorn Table’s name. Shingo stated when they were searching for a band name, Salia asked about the English word for ‘we cannot count.’ Salia tried to pronounce the word ‘uncountable’ but instead said ‘Unicorn Table,’ and they decided to keep the name since it sounded unique. Shingo stated that people mistake their name for a restaurant.
Along with their unique name, Unicorn Table has a unique sound, which both members stated as inspired from everyday life. Unicorn Table wanted their listeners to hear passion from their music. If they could accomplish that, then they would be very happy, thus they pride themselves on creating all their music from scratch. Salia stated that they do everything from the heart.
Fans had the opportunity to hear Unicorn Table’s passion when they rocked out during their live performance, with songs such as TO BE FREE, Infinity, RAIN and Sora. The American audience got the privilege to listen to a song which was recorded for a commercial not yet released in Japan.
After the concert, Unicorn Table had an autograph signing, and many fans were able to take pictures with Salia and Shingo. It was a great way to make memories for the American fans, as well as for Unicorn Table. Hopefully, there will be more opportunities for them to perform at Tora-Con in the future; we haven’t heard the end of Unicorn Table yet!
