DUSTAR-3 by DUSTAR-3

We first met the three members of the punk/rock band DUSTAR-3 in 2005 for an interview. Now, two years later and just after the release of their new album Oretachi ikemen, we decided to have a quick chat with them. Not being a usual band, we decided to give the mini-interview a little twist and asked them questions related to the letters in their name.

D – Days: What do you do on your days off?
Yuki: I watch TV programs which I record daily, and I drink alcohol with various band people.
Noisy: I play video games on my Playstation.
Himawari: I meet my friends, read books and I try to touch a part of my life I usually can’t…well…I try to.

U - Unexpected: What’s the most unexpected thing that has happened at a concert?
Yuki: There is a song in which I play the harmonica, but I had the harmonica upside down and it was a total mess.
Noisy: I had to get medicine for a bad stomachache.
Himawari: The studs of my costume stung my arm and I bled…I smelled of blood.

S – Secrets: Please tell us a secret.
Yuki: Today, I burned my tongue with hot miso soup.
Noisy: My legs are very short.
Himawari: I’m really worried about the increase in the price of gasoline.

T – Titles: You often use the word ‘pants’ in your titles, why is that?
Yuki: I’ve made ‘Pants Not Dead’ to be my motto.
Noisy: It’s so I don’t forget the spirit of youth. And I think it’s funny…
Himawari: Pants are something near to us, so we want to be that near to the fans. Please feel close to us like like you feel with the pants you’re wearing now!

A – Alcohol: What are you like when you’re drunk?
Yuki: I call various people.
Noisy: I talk a lot.
Himawari: I become a little bit careless.

R – Recording: How did the recording of your new album Oretachi Ikemen go?
Yuki: We recorded six songs at a time in two sessions, and my guitar playing in the later half was more technical, I think.
Noisy: Same as usual.
Himawari: It was fun, but kind of a battleground too. Still, it was a time of fulfillment for us.

3 – 3 things: Which three things would you take with you to a deserted island?
Yuki: Instruments, three guitars!
Noisy: Beer, bicycle and a fishing rod. So I can totally enjoy myself.
Himawari: DORAEMON. That would be enough.

About the Author

Kay is the English version manager, aka editor in chief/executive editor and one of JaME’s vice-presidents. Between her job, second BA studies and random language courses, she’s able to find time to shout at her darling team members and write an article or two once in a while. If that isn’t enough, she runs a JRock company in her home country and occasionally organizes concerts of well-known Japanese rock acts.    Although she got into Japanese music through visual kei, she has now moved onto different sorts of music such as pop, alternative/indie rock and will talk your ears off about anything related to reggae in Japan.
